Frequently Asked Questions
What details do you need about my prescription?
Before you order your new glasses you will need:
A recent copy of your prescription (less than 2 years old). It is recommended that you get an eye examination every 2 years.
How do I get a copy of my prescription?
You can obtain a copy of your prescription from your optometrist; just ask for a travel card with your spectacle prescription details.
Please ensure that the prescribing optometrist has included a measurement called a P.D (pupil distance) or O.C (optical centre). This is the distance between your eyes.
What do I do if I can’t read my prescription?
Please either fax it to 09 421 1752 or scan and email it to sales@lessforspecs.co.nz. We can assist in making sure the details are correct before ordering.
Will my glasses need adjusting?
A final adjustment may be required for your new spectacles because the technology to do this online does not exist. Many opticians are able to provide this service on request. There may be a charge from your optometrist for this service (depending on the policy of the shop).
How long will it take to get my new specs?
Allow 14 days for single vision glasses and allow 16 days for progressive lenses. In some rare cases it may take longer due to unforeseen delays by courier companies or manufacturers. We will keep you informed if any delays occur.
Are your lenses of good quality?
The spectacle lenses we are supplying are made to high standards, from modern materials, with the latest technology. The lens designs, materials and coating are comparable to quality products which are available from any optician.
Are the frames you supply good quality?
The frames we supply are made to the same standard as designer labels but you are not charged the same price.

- A digital photo of yourself

What is the best way to clean my spectacles?
The best way to clean your glasses is with warm soapy water, not hot water. Dish washing liquid is very good. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean cotton cloth or a high quality facial tissue. Alternatively use a microfiber cloth which is designed for optical lenses in the absence of warm soapy water.
Is there a guarantee? If so for how long?
Our lenses are guaranteed for 18 months against faulty materials and coatings. This does not cover wear and tear or changes in vision.
Frames are covered for 12 months against faulty parts this does not include wear and tear or accidental breakage.
What if I don’t like the look of them?
LessforSpecs offers the virtual try on facility [link] so you can view yourself wearing frames from our selection. We do not offer a replacement or refund if you don’t like your new glasses. We offer great prices, great quality so please choose carefully.
What happens if I ordered spectacles with the wrong prescription?
LessforSpecs will supply a replacement set of lenses at 50% off the original price if you have ordered a pair of spectacles using an incorrect prescription or entered the prescription incorrectly.
What if I am experiencing difficulties with vision?
It can often take a few days to adapt to new spectacles and sometimes a little longer with progressive lenses. This is quite normal.
If you normally use contact lens you are more likely to notice a difference in vision between glasses and contact lenses.
If after a week you are still experiencing difficulties with your vision you will need to check with the prescribing optometrist as we will have manufactured exactly what was ordered.
Can I get a pair of frames on trial?
We provide a facility on line so you can view yourself wearing frames from our selection. We do not provide a loan or trial facility for our frames.
Is the product quality checked before I receive it?
All spectacles supplied by LessforSpecs are checked. We will not supply a pair of spectacles which do not pass the final inspection process. The manufacturing process involves modern automated systems to the highest standards. The process is thoroughly monitored to ensure quality.
Do you supply multi-focal or progressive lenses?
We provide progressive lenses and computer lenses.
Which lens coatings do you have?
There are many types of lens coating available. LessforSpecs supplies all lenses with a high quality anti-reflection coating.
What if I can’t find a PD (pupillary distance) value on my prescription card?
If there is no PD or pupil distance measurements please visit your optician and ask if they can provide this for you. The process takes less than a minute. This measurement should be included on your prescription card.
Sometimes there are 2 PD values shown on a prescription card, eg 64/61. Please enter the lager of the two values, in this case 64.
What if I enter my details incorrectly?
If you have entered your details incorrectly please email us within 2 hours otherwise the order will have been processed and you will receive what was ordered. Please ensure you enter exactly what is written on your prescription card as we cannot be held responsible for incorrectly entered information.
Can I use my contact lens prescription?
A contact lens prescription may look similar but it is not the same. Please do not use this for ordering your spectacles.
Digital Images and progressive lenses
When ordering progressive lenses, we recommend uploading your digital photo when selecting frames with our virtual try on option. This will ensure your progressive lenses are fitted in the optimum position. If you would rather proceed without uploading your digital photo you can do so, but your progressive lenses will be fitted to the manufacturers' recommended fitting heights. This may not be the optimum position.
